A visão tridimensional começa a dar seus primeiros passos em algumas salas de cinema, mas praticamente não avançou na televisão e nos equipamentos domésticos.

Mas, de acordo com pesquisadores europeus, a história pode começar a mudar justamente onde menos se esperava: na tela dos telefones celulares, players e iPods.

“O mercado de equipamentos portáteis tem sido muito mais dinâmico e receptivo a novas tecnologias do que o mercado de televisores, já que a ideia mais geral de mobilidade é baseada no dinamismo,” defende Atanas Gotchev, coordenador do projeto europeu Mobile3-DTV.

Filmes 3-D no celular

Quando o assunto é a projeção 3D, a grande vantagem dos aparelhos portáteis pode estar justamente nas suas telas muito pequenas, das quais os usuários não esperam experiências vibrantes, como quando alguém promete um filme tridimensional no cinema ou mesmo na televisão.

“Na tecnologia móvel 3D, o modo de visualização é pessoal, o tamanho da tela é pequeno e o próprio usuário se encarrega de ajustar a posição do aparelho para ter a melhor visualização,” diz Gotchev.

De novo os padrões

Assim como no cinema, que viu surgir as primeiras promessas de filmes 3D logo depois da invenção do próprio cinema, já nos anos 1890, telefones celulares com visores 3D também não são novidade.

A Sharp lançou um celular 3D no Japão em 2003, a Samsung lançou sua versão na Coreia em 2007 e a Hitachi lançou um modelo no Japão em 2009. O iPhone também suporte filmes tridimensionais, mas exige o uso de óculos especiais.

E por que esses equipamentos não fizeram sucesso? Talvez pela escassez de conteúdo, mas certamente pela falta de padrões na indústria, que pudessem justamente encorajar os produtores de conteúdo a criar filmes 3-D para os celulares.

O estabelecimento de um padrão para a geração de conteúdo 3D para celulares é uma das principais propostas do projeto Mobile3-DTV.

Os pesquisadores esperam que os fabricantes de equipamentos adotem o padrão do Mobile3-DTV, evitando mais uma “guerra dos formatos.” Para isso, eles estão baseando seu trabalho no padrão europeu conhecido como DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld).

3-D sem óculos

Talvez a maior vantagem do novo sistema é que ele dispensará de vez o uso de óculos especiais. “As telas autoestereoscópicas usam elementos ópticos adicionais alinhados na superfície do LCD para garantir que o observador veja imagens diferentes com cada um dos olhos,” explica Gotchev.

“Como os equipamentos portáteis são normalmente vistos por um único observador, duas visões independentes são suficientes para uma percepção 3D satisfatória,” diz o pesquisador.

As especificações estão a caminho, o hardware praticamente não representa nenhum empecilho, com a indústria dispondo de todas as soluções técnicas para a construção de LCDs capazes de mostrar filmes 3D. Agora só falta convencer os produtores de conteúdo a começar a fazer a sua parte.
